Poshmark Photo Size, and Depop, Vinted and Mercari Limits

Poshmark takes 16 photos, Vinted 20, Mercari 12, and none of those help pages gives a pixel size to hit. Smol shrinks a whole rail of iPhone shots to a size you choose, turns HEIC into JPEG, and strips location data, in one batch on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Shrink a full day of closet shots in one drag-and-drop batch
  • HEIC from your iPhone to small JPEG, with quality you set
  • Image copies are stripped of GPS and camera data by default
  • Same settings for every app, so cross-listing stays consistent

Poshmark photo size is not published as a pixel figure: its listing guide gives a count of 16 photos and no dimensions. Vinted and Mercari are the same. What you control is the long edge and the quality, and the table below pairs each job with the Smol setting.

What is the right Poshmark photo size?

Poshmark’s own listing guide gives a count, not a size: the maximum is 16 photos per listing. It states no pixel size or resolution. Treat any exact figure you see for Poshmark as a seller’s guess until the app itself says otherwise.

That leaves you free to choose a size that is sharp on a phone screen and small to upload. A long edge of 1600 pixels is a sensible start: it keeps stitching and tags legible, and a 4032 × 3024 iPhone frame has about 12 million pixels while 1600 × 1200 has about 2 million, roughly 16% of them. That is our starting point, not a rule from any app. Upload one test photo, zoom in on the tag, and move up or down from there.

What are the Depop, Vinted and Mercari photo limits?

Vinted allows 20 photos per listing, Mercari 12, Poshmark 16. Only Vinted publishes rules about how the photos should look. This is what each cited page says, and what it leaves out.

Photo rules from each app's own help pages

Vinted’s catalog rules say “no image editing is allowed” and that photos must represent the item as it is. Keep your Smol settings to size and quality, and leave filters and retouching out. Smol is not a photo editor.

Which Smol settings suit resale listing photos from a Mac?

Compress to JPG at quality 75 to 80 with a maximum dimension near 1600. Those are our starting points, not thresholds measured against any app, so test one listing before a full batch.

Smol settings for resale photos (starting points, adjust after a test)
PhotoOperation and formatQualityMaximum dimension
Garment and shoe shots, iPhone HEICCompress, output JPG80 (starting point)1600
Close-ups of tags, stitching, flawsCompress, output JPG85 (starting point)2000, Smol’s default
Quick listing photos in a hurryCompress, output JPG75, Smol’s default1200
Photos with a hanger or room visibleCompress, output JPG801600; check that nothing private shows

Smol resizes images to fit inside 2000 × 2000 pixels unless you change it, and quality runs 0 to 100. Use Compress with the output set to JPG, not Convert: converting to JPG ignores the quality setting and writes a large, high-quality file. For the HEIC steps in detail see batch converting HEIC to JPG and converting a single HEIC.

For scale: on 24 small test photos (high-quality JPEGs, default settings, 768 × 512), Smol’s JPEGs came out 69.3% smaller. Those are small film photographs, not phone files, so your results will differ. Method and raw data are on the benchmark page.

How do I prepare a day of listing photos in one batch?

Do it once per shoot: export, drag the folder into Smol, check one file, upload. About ten minutes of setup the first time, then it is a drag and a click.

  1. Export the day’s photos to a folder on your Mac

AirDrop or Image Capture both work. Keep the originals; by default Smol writes a copy with a _compressed suffix.

  2. Drag the folder into Smol

Whole folders are accepted, and HEIC is read as input.

  3. Set output JPG, quality 80, maximum dimension 1600

Keep the resize mode on fit so no garment gets cropped.

  4. Run it and open the biggest output

Smol shows per-file sizes. Zoom in on a tag. If it is soft, raise quality or dimension and rerun that file.

  5. Check one file for location data

Open an output in Preview, choose Tools, Show Location Info. A stripped file shows nothing. More in stripping GPS from photos.

  6. Upload the compressed copies

Lead with the whole item in the first photo, which is also Vinted’s rule, then tags and flaws.

Smol’s completion screen after a batch: 128 files complete, 2.4 GB before, 310 MB after, 87% saved, 2 minutes 41 seconds elapsed

How do resellers shrink photos today, and how do the options compare?

Free options come first, and for a handful of photos they are enough. The comparison of every Mac method is in compress images on Mac, every method compared.

For the Terminal route see the sips command. If you also sell on other marketplaces, our pages for product images for online stores and eBay listing photos use the same workflow.

Should I strip location data from resale photos?

Yes, if you shoot at home. Phone photos can carry GPS coordinates, and your living room is a location. Smol strips EXIF, GPS, IPTC and XMP from images by default, and it can be switched off.

  • Verify one output with Show Location Info before trusting a batch.
  • Metadata is not the only leak: a house number, a package label or a window view can place you. Read what to check before you post a photo.
  • Smol runs on your Mac and uploads nothing, so the originals never leave the machine until you post.

When is Smol the wrong tool for resale photos?

Smol will not fix every listing problem. Skip it in these cases.

  • You list from your phone alone and never use a Mac. Smol is macOS only.
  • You need a lossless pass. Smol always re-encodes images; ImageOptim is the answer for pixel-identical output.
  • You need backgrounds removed, lighting fixed or colors corrected. Smol compresses and converts; it does not edit.
  • You have ten photos a week. Preview and the Photos export are free and enough.
  • You need an exact byte cap. Smol sets quality and pixel size, not output bytes, so check the result against any cap you face.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Poshmark photo size?

Poshmark’s listing guide states a maximum of 16 photos per listing and gives no pixel size or resolution. Pick a size that stays sharp on a phone, such as a long edge near 1600 pixels, and test one listing before you run a full batch of photos.

What is the Depop photo size?

This page cites no Depop photo size, because it only gives figures from a help page it can quote. Check the photo screen when you create a listing. For any app, a JPEG with a long edge near 1600 pixels is a reasonable starting point; test one listing and adjust.

What are the Vinted photo requirements?

Vinted allows up to 20 photos per listing. The first photo should show the whole item without collages, photos must be sharp and clear, stock, ad and watermarked images are not allowed, and no image editing is allowed. Neither Vinted page states a pixel size or format.

What is the Mercari photo size?

Mercari’s listing guide says you can add up to 12 photos to a listing. The page states no photo size, format or aspect ratio, so choose your own long edge and quality, check how the photo looks in the app, and adjust.

Can I prepare resale listing photos from a Mac in bulk?

Yes. Drag a folder into Smol, set Compress to JPG with quality and maximum dimension, and it writes a copy of every photo beside the original. HEIC is accepted as input and metadata is stripped by default. It runs locally, with nothing uploaded.

Does compressing photos hurt how they look in the app?

Not at sensible settings. Quality 75 to 85 with a long edge of 1600 to 2000 pixels is a starting point we suggest, not a measured threshold. Zoom in on tags and stitching in one output, then raise quality if details look soft.
