I lost my license key

Check the inbox you used to buy for an email from [email protected] with subject line “Your Smol license”. Search your spam folder too.

Still can’t find it? Write to us with the email or name on the purchase and we’ll resend it within an hour.

“Smol can’t be opened because the developer cannot be verified”

This is macOS Gatekeeper being cautious about a new app. Right-click the Smol icon in Applications and choose Open. Confirm once. You’ll never see this warning again.

On macOS 15+, you may need to go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open anyway next to the Smol warning.

Compression is slower than I expected

Three usual suspects, in order:

  1. Battery saver / Low Power Mode is on. macOS throttles the CPU and GPU in this mode. Plug in and try again.
  2. You’re running on the slowest preset. Open Smol → Preferences → Quality — the default “Smol balanced” is 3–5× faster than “Max compression.”
  3. Something else is hammering your machine. Check Activity Monitor.

The app says my license is invalid

Usually one of three things:

  1. Your license is already activated on another Mac. Each license activates one Mac at a time — deactivate the old one in Preferences → License first.
  2. You typed a zero where there’s an O (or vice versa). Copy-paste from the email is safer.
  3. Your Mac is offline. The license server needs a quick check once a week.

Tried all three? Write to us. We can manually re-issue or move your license in a few minutes.

Can I get an invoice with my company details?

Yes. Reply to your receipt email (or write to [email protected]) with your company name, address, and VAT / tax ID. We send a proper PDF invoice the same day.
